Jesse James Hollywood never had a job. Inexplicably, at the age of 19, he bought a $200,000 house in West Hills, California where he kept two pit bulls romping in the backyard. He drove a black Mercedes and a racy blue sports car. His house, according to neighbors, was the spot for heavy foot traffic and luxury cars coming and going. Jesse was a popular guy, an outgoing kid who liked to joke around. Short in stature at 5'5", he was an excellent baseball player.

Others knew Jesse as a large-scale marijuana dealer. Benjamin Markowitz, 22, was one of his customers. His debt to Jesse surpassed $1,500. Markowitz allegedly smashed a window at Jesse's house. It was the broken window that sent Hollywood over to Markowitz's family home on August 6, 2000. According to police, on the way there, Jesse and his friends spotted Markowitz's 15 year-old stepbrother, Nicholas. Though the crew allegedly set out to kidnap Benjamin, they instead forced Nicholas into a van and transported him to the home of another accomplice. On August 8, 2000, after being transported to Santa Barbara, California, Nicholas was moved to a rural area north of Goleta, California, where he was shot to death. His body was found by hikers.

UPDATE: Five years after Jesse James Hollywood fled the area, FBI agents tracked him down to a small coastal village near Rio de Janiero, Brazil.  Hollywood and his pregnant girlfriend were sitting in an outdoor cafe when Brazilian police swooped in and grabbed him.   He was turned over to U.S. authorities and flown back to California.  He is currently in jail awaiting trial.
