Broadcast Date: November 19, 2001 SYNOPSIS: Oscar Valazquez was an honest, hard-working 22-year-old who held down a steady job, had recently bought a new car, and had just begun dating 18-year-old Regina Defrancisco. Oscar was quite smitten with Regina and would do almost anything for her. When Oscar received a call from Regina's 16-year old sister, Margaret, asking him for a huge favor, he was eager to help. Margaret explained that Regina had been wrongfully arrested and needed money to make bail. Little did Oscar know that in fact, Regina's real boyfriend was the one in jail and Regina needed the money to bail him out. Oscar generously loaned $1,000 to Margaret to get Regina out of jail. Shortly after her release, Regina went on a date with Oscar, at which time she promised to pay him back his $1,000. A week or so later Oscar asked Regina for the money. According to authorities, Regina knew she couldn't pay him back and offered another solution: a three-way sexual encounter with Regina, her sister and Oscar. Oscar allegedly agreed to the proposal. On June 6th, 2000, Oscar Valazquez went over to the girls' house to pick Regina up for a date and possibly cash in on her sexual offer. When he arrived, Regina wasn't quite ready and remained upstairs, so Oscar retired to the living room with Regina's sister, Margaret and another friend. The police account says that Regina then went to the basement and summoned Oscar to follow her down the stairs. Once he descended to the cellar, Margaret followed him and allegedly shot him in the back of the head. They also purportedly took between $600 and $1,100 in cash and a silver necklace from Oscar. Authorities claimed that the following scenario then occurred: The two sisters loaded Oscar's body in the trunk of his new Camaro and drove to a vacant lot where they dumped the body. They poured nail polish remover on his body before setting it on fire. The sisters torched his car a few miles away. Oscar's mother, Maria, was worried sick when her son hadn't returned home. She and Oscar's father checked the morgue, where they found their son. After police questioned the sisters, they immediately fled the area and have not been seen since. UPDATE: Margaret DeFrancisco has been captured. In March of 2002, authorities received tips directing them to the Roscoe, Illinois home of a relative of DeFrancisco’s. She was found guilty and sentenced to 46 years in prison. Seven months after her sister’s arrest, Regina DeFrancisco was apprehended in Dallas, Texas, following a complaint that she had stolen a car from an acquaintance. When they checked her fingerprints, they discovered that she was wanted in Illinois. Regina DeFrancisco was found guilty and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
