MISSING LEONARD DIRICKSON |
|
Rebroadcast Date: December 12, 2001 (Originally broadcast on October 4, 2001) SYNOPSIS: On March 14th, 1998, Leonard Dirickson and his nineteen-year-old son, Jared, were having breakfast together in the kitchen of Dirickson's Oklahoma farmhouse. A truck pulled up outside and Leonard went out to investigate. As Leonard spoke with the driver, Jared began washing the dishes. Leonard came back into the kitchen to say the man wanted to see the studhorse Leonard had for sale. Leonard told Jared that he was taking the man to see it and that he'd be back later that night. The two men drove off. That was the last time Jared saw his father. Three years later, police still don't have a clue as to what happened to Leonard Dirickson. Neither do they have a crime. There was no kidnapping. Leonard went willingly. And so far, there's no homicide. Interestingly, a waitress a couple of towns over is certain she saw Leonard in her café that day with another man - thought to be the man who picked Leonard up at his farm earlier in the day. Moreover, six months after Leonard's disappearance, he was reportedly seen again in Texas. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation got a call from a man in an Amarillo bar who said he knew Leonard Dirickson, and that he was sitting next to him at a bar. When agents rushed the bar, the caller was gone - as was anybody who looked remotely like Leonard Dirickson. Could Leonard have simply skipped out on his life? It's not unreasonable to think so, given that Leonard was deeply in debt following his painful divorce. His mother, however, says that Leonard would never leave his son as the two were very close. Who was the mystery man in the truck? Was he simply a man who wanted to look at a studhorse for sale? But if that's the case, how did he know to come out to Leonard's farm to see about the horse? Leonard had made no advertisement about wanting to sell the horse, so how did the stranger know how to get to Leonard's property? Without a motive, the search for Leonard Dirickson will continue to be hampered. Until then his family hopes that Leonard is safe and will someday return home. Characteristics: Leonard Dirickson is now 43 years old. He is 5'10" tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown hair and gray eyes. Leonard was last seen wearing green jeans, brown/black hiking boots, a faded black coat with hood, and a brown cap with green bill that says ACCO FEEDS. If you have any information about Leonard Dirickson, please contact the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation or call the Unsolved Mysteries hotline, 1-800-876-5353.
