SYNOPSIS: Considered a hero by many when he sacrificed his carefree bachelor life to move back home to take care of his five brothers and sisters, including one who has Downs Syndrome, Frank Montenegro may be anything but. Accused of sexually molesting not only two of his students, but his brother as well, Montenegro fled his family, leaving their fate to others, and is now a fugitive from prosecution.

In the spring of 1988, Frank's mother died giving birth to her last child. His father died two months later in a car accident. It was then that 24-year-old elementary school teacher Frank Montenegro gave up his carefree life in San Diego to move back home to Hayward, California to accept responsibility for his five younger siblings, one of whom has Downs Syndrome. Not only did he assume custody, but he took over the responsibility of supporting his brothers and sisters financially, as well. In addition, Frank saw his baby sister Nicole, the one with Downs Syndrome, through a dozen hospitalizations and open-heart surgery. He saw to it that there was always food in the house, and that they all went to church on Sundays. His heroic story made the news. "People Magazine" even published a piece on Frank. A very well respected teacher - and a Sunday school teacher to boot - he could do no wrong in the eyes of the public.

But then in the summer of 2001, Frank's great reputation started to come crashing down. And it started when Patricia Jackson, a mother of an elementary school boy, discovered a pair of white boxer shorts with a yin-yang symbol on them. The boy claimed he received them from his teacher, Mr. Monty (Frank Montenegro). A few days later, while she and her son watched a TV program about child sexual abuse, her son turned to her and allegedly told her that Mr. Monty had raped him at the school. Hayward Police Detective Martinez interviewed the young boy and investigated the classroom. She reportedly found a two-way mirror that separated two small adjoining rooms behind the classroom. One room contained video equipment. Detective Martinez brought Frank Montenegro in for a three-hour questioning session that lasted late into the night. Frank agreed to return the following morning for a polygraph. But the next morning, Frank never showed.

In the meantime, Detective Martinez began to search for any reports that Social Services or the neighboring Hayward Police Department might have on Frank. The police department in a neighboring city was investigating another claim of abuse. Detective Martinez immediately dispatched detectives to stake out Frank's home but Frank was long gone. He had rented a red Toyota Corolla which was found a few days later abandoned in La Paz, Baja California. Authorities don't believe Frank is in Mexico. It's possible that he's in San Diego, where he still has friends or he could be in Kansas where he has relatives. But really, it's anybody's guess where Frank Montenegro is.

NOTE: Frank Montenegro is now 38 years old. He is 5'10" tall and weighs 230 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Frank Montenegro is an avid bicyclist and speaks fluent Spanish. He needs a sleep apnea machine at night to help him breathe. He also needs medication for high blood pressure.
