SYNOPSIS: About 10:00 a.m. on June 27, 2000, Magi Bish dropped her 16-year-old daughter Molly off at Comins Pond in semi-rural Warren, Massachusetts, where Molly was working as a lifeguard. Three hours later, Magi received an alarming phone call. Swimmers arriving at the pond had reported no lifeguard was present, although Molly’s shoes, chair and first-aid kit were lying on the beach. Despite an extensive search of the pond and surrounding area with scuba divers, dogs, ground and aerial units, police found no sign of Molly, nor did they uncover any clues to explain her disappearance. Molly Bish had vanished into thin air.

Magi Bish is convinced her daughter was abducted, and, in fact, believes she may have seen the man responsible the day before. On June 26, when Magi dropped Molly off at the pond, she noticed a stranger in a late model white car sitting in the parking lot. Something about the man made her uneasy, so she was careful to get a good look at him as she was leaving. To her surprise, the man defiantly starred right back at her, and then drove away.

The following morning, the suspicious man was nowhere to be seen, and a truck from a local company was unloading sand on the beach. Feeling Molly would be safe with the local workmen present, Magi left after dropping Molly off, but she never saw her daughter again.

The police investigation centered on the man Magi saw in the white car. The sand truck driver had seen a similar car in the parking lot just moments before Molly and Magi arrived. A worker in a cemetery on the other side of the pond reported seeing a similar white car later that morning. Despite setting up roadblocks, searching crime databases and interviewing convicted sex offenders, police have been unable to identify the man in the white car. A composite based on Magi’s description produced no reliable leads.

Desperate to generate any information, Magi and her husband, John Bish, took action. They set up a web site devoted to finding Molly and e-mailed photos of their daughter to more than 35,000 outlets. Then Magi tracked down famed sketch artist Jeanne Boylan to create a more accurate drawing of the man in the white car, a composite the Bishes hope will help resolve the case.

Molly’s disappearance has transformed Magi and her husband into staunch child safety advocates who do whatever they can to help other families victimized by crime.

The suspect wanted for questioning in Molly’s disappearance is a heavyset white male with dark brown graying hair and dark eyes. He is approximately fifty years old and is of average height. He is possibly a heavy smoker.

UPDATE: In June of 2003 Molly Bish’s remains were found about five miles from where she disappeared.  Police would still like information about the man with the cigarette. If you have any information about the death of Molly Bish, please contact the Massachusetts State Police or call the Unsolved Mysteries hotline, 1-800-876-5353.
